Electricity Saving Day Electricity saving campaign is an important component of the National Consumer Campaign (KKK) to create awareness on the importance of saving electricity. It is celebrated 27th February 2009, in conjunction with E-day celebrated in the Europe.
The world temperature today is hotter than before and the increase of temperature has caused glaziers to melt, increasing the sea level and inviting other environmental disasters. This warming is caused by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. These emissions are heating the planet by acting as a blanket that traps the sun's heat inside our atmosphere.
The more electricity we use, the more greenhouse gas (GHG) that we release. This is because electricity is generated mostly from fossil fuel which is the main factor contributing to global warming. Fossil fuels do not only pollute the environment but is also limited. Therefore, overuse of this resource will result in depletion of this energy source causing electricity shortage and with our current consumption pattern; we are expected to face shortage in 2 to 3 years.
Making changes in our household can change our future. Energy efficiency is the easiest way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at home. When we save, we enjoy benefits of cheaper electricity bills, better use of resources and less green house emission. So, let’s act today and always remember “Change Begins With Me”.
