By practising the 3 R's (reduce - reuse - recycle) we can avoid wasting the world's resources. Resources that run out eventually are called "finite resources". For example, there is a limit to the amount of oil from which we can make plastic, and aluminium ore to make drinks cans. By practising the 3 R's we can save finite resources for the future, and reduce the amount of waste that ends up in tips.

 

Reduce
1. Buy only what you need:
  - Reduce unnecessary purchasing. Do not buy goods that are not used very often. Buy local products.

2. Buy goods that can be reused:
  - Buy goods with glass bottles and rechargeable batteries.

3. Buy multipurpose cleaner:
  - This will reduce using many cleansers for different purposes.

4. Buy products with least packaging:
  - Lesser packaging will reduce the waste produced. Support paper based packaging.

5. Sell or donate equipments (in good condition) that are not used:
  - Do not store, throw or burn unused equipments.

6. Buy non toxic products:
  - Most of the toxic products such as engine oil, polish, paint, and pesticide cannot be reused. Finish using the toxic substances before disposing the containers.

7. Use alternative materials to replace toxic materials:
  - For example, soda and vinegar as well lemon acts as a natural furniture polish.

Reuse
1. Used bags that can be reused for shopping and storage at home.
2. Envelopes can be reused by pasting the new address on top of the old one. It can
  also be used as scrap paper.
3. Used containers that can be utilised to keep household goods.
4. Papers and cardbords can be used for wrapping and storing goods at home. Papers can also be used as scrap paper. Do not forget, if the paper cannot be used, recycle them.
5. Old clothes can be used as cushion cover, table cloth or cleaning cloth.
6. Old wood can be made as souveniers. Do not burn them, you can be fined for it.
7. Old tyres can be returned to tyre shops for recycling.

Recycle
1. Recycle at home:
  - Always look out for recyclables at home. Segregate the waste. Use recycling bins to discard these materials.
  - Search for the methods to recycle every materials such as paper, plastic, metal and glass. Other materials like furniture, electronic material, construction material and vehicle also can be recycled.
  - Purchase recycled products.

2. Recycling in your lawn:
  - Recycling garden wastes can improve the condition of your lawn. Composting,
    decomposition of organic materials can be used as a fertiliser for your lawn. It is the best way to reduce kitchen waste.
  - Recycling grass is a concise method to return the nutritional value into the soil when decomposition of grass.

3. Recycling in a community:
  - Recycling centres: to give space and facility to local communities to send their recyclables for recycling.
  - School and business: play an important role. Both can become the reference source and give awareness about recycle.
  - Community projects: carry out the activities in order to improve and increase recycle activities.
